What is Valentine's Day? What is the meaning of Valentine's Day? Why do we celebrate Valentine's day? Why is 14th February Valentine's Day?
Let's find it out from the history of valentine's day.
Valentine's Day is celebrated all over the world with great enthusiasm. In ancient Rome, in 269 AD, a Christian priest and physician named St. Valentine lived in Italy. At that time, a cruel tyrannic emperor was expanding his empire in Rome. The name of this emperor was Emperor Claudius the Second. It is said that once the emperor was defeated in battle, and when he inquired about the cause of defeat in the war, he came to know that his army had less troops than the enemy empire. He called on the youth community to join the army to help of the nation. But no youth came to respond to the Emperor's call to enroll in the Emperor's army. The emperor tried to find out the reason and found out that the youth community was busy with their families and life partners. That's why they were not willing to join the war. He then announced that no one in his empire would marry. This announcement seemed cruel to everyone, but nobody had the courage to rise up against Emperor Claudius. Many people strongly opposed the decision but did not dare to protest. But St. Valentine resisted the decision and secretly managed to marry many lovers. One day Emperor Claudius the Second learned of the whole matter and imprisoned Valentine. Couples began to gather, outside of the prison where St. Valentine was imprisoned. Many couples used to give rose flowers to him. He was respected and loved by the general staff of the prison as well as the jailor, but all were helpless under the emperor's orders. The jailor had a blind daughter. He requested St. Valentine to give his blind daughter some religious knowledge. From then on, the jailer's daughter used to visit St. Valentine every day and take lessons. The girl's name was Julia and she had desires to see the colorful world. Valentine used to say that if she believed in God and prayed in a pure way, he might turn her back on her. One day St. Valentine prayed and Julia regained her sight. From then on, Julia began to love Valentine, and a love affair developed between them. The jailor knew the whole thing but he never opposed it. In such a case, the emperor announced February 14 as Valentine's death day. St. Valentine wrote a love letter to his beloved Julia before he died. The letter ended saying "Your Valentine". Valentine was then sentenced to death on February 14th. This is how St. Valentine sacrificed her life for love. Since that day, Valentine's Day has been celebrated on this earth in his memory.
Pope Golciaus, a Christian priest, did not declare Valentine's Day February 14, because of Valentine's love for the young girl in the Prison. In Christianity, it is not lawful for a priest to marry. Therefore, addiction to the girl's love for the priesthood is immoral in Christianity. Besides, Valentine didn't have to go to jail because of love. Because he fell in love with a prisoner's daughter after going to jail. Thus, Valentine's love of imprisonment and execution had nothing to do with love. So Valentine's alleged love for St. Valentine's Day was not the key. Rather, his deep love for religion was the cause of his death.
